Care Corner Photo Journal – Volume 2
Today we played at school. Yesterday we played too. We play everyday. I hope that isn’t alarming to the parents who pay tuition. But we played. It’s my favorite time of the day after handwriting they go to “specials”….to play. We played with building things, creating things, stuffed animals (book buddies) flashcards and saint cards. It wasn’t part of a parent group and it wasn’t even structured. They decided how they wanted to play. They made their own rules. They did their own socializing. They did their own creating. Our staff is reading a book called “Their Name is Today” and it’s about reclaiming childhood. The chapters we discussed today were about the value of play. Kids need to play. Friedrich Froebel says “Play…is the free expression of what’s in a child’s soul.” We did lots of academics today. We talked about the Gospel of Mark, we did consonant teams in reading, we had an extensive phonics evaluation and did triple addends in math. But we did even more. Today…we played.
