This long Thanksgiving weekend will find me in and out of Care Corner cleaning up from the flood and getting it ready for Christmas. Being in Care Corner on the weekends without kids, confirms what I always say…the kids put the CARE in Care Corner. Without them…it is just “corner”. (No disrespect to Bessie. She does add something special to even an empty room…but the CARE part comes from the kids).
So as I come and go from Care Corner…and as Thanksgiving comes and goes from this year…I reflect on 23 Care Corner Kids and the blessings they add to a classroom…and to my life. So…in no particular order (so don’t try and figure it out)…I just want to give thanks…23 thank you’s…for the ways they bless my days.
Thanks to the one who was unsure at first but now has found new confidence in school…and life. I love how that smile on your face has now turned to laughter…dare I say giggles.
Thanks to the reader who made so much improvement in such a short time. I love how you tackle each new word.
Thanks for the giggly student. I love how you sneak up behind me. That makes me giggle too.
Thanks for the student who is still a bit unsure but is just learning to volunteer to give answers. I love that you are now taking a risk.
Thanks for the picture maker who brings me daily pictures. Thanks for being a great artist and an even better giver.
Thanks for the pet lover. I love how you pray for your pet fish and I love how often you stop by Bessie’s cage just to check on her.
Thanks for the sparkly eye student. I love how your eyes sparkle and squint when you get so excited about an answer or a story…or that new puppy of yours.
Thanks for the “try my best” student. I love how you announce that “I tried my best.” when you turn in a paper.
Thanks for the struggling student who works so hard. An “A+” in effort is a life lesson that you have already mastered.
Thanks for the creative student. I love the colors you use that teach me to think outside of the “traditional colors” box.
Thanks for the budding student. Once you gain a bit more confidence you are going to take off and blossom…Soon!
Thanks for the goofy student. I love how you make me laugh and help make learning fun for all of us.
Thanks for the saint expert. I love how learning the saints is so special to you and how you help your team during the saint game.
Thanks for the “I know that!” student. I love your confidence no matter what subject we are doing.
Thanks for the “need-a-hug” student. Some days I need your hugs as much as you need mine.
Thanks for the manners student who always says thank you…for everything.
Thanks for the author/illustrator who reads her stories to us for Reader of the Day. Thanks for sharing your amazing talents with us.
Thanks for the singing expert in Care Corner. From the “good morning” song to friendship circle you are our song leader…and so is your voice.
Thanks for the question expert who knows you learn best by asking questions. I loved it today when we took our money to the poor bank and you asked “What does generous mean?”
Thanks for the Care Corner Kid who loves each day. I loved when you were sick and couldn’t come to school that you were sad and kept your uniform on all day anyway. (We did miss you.)
Thanks for the “independent” student who always has her own ideas and thoughts. You pick your own color, your own favorites and when I ask if you need help with an idea you always say “No, thank you.”.
Thanks for the first grade smile girl. I love your toothless grin and I love that you smile so much. I’m kind of sad that new tooth is stating to grow in.
Thanks for the thoughtful kid who said goodbye to me today and then turned around and came back to say “Have a Happy Thanksgiving”. I will…thanks to you…and 22 other Care Corner Kids.
So Monday the kids will come into Care Corner and see that it is ready for Christmas. They will see that Thanksgiving has come and gone…but not really. With these 23 blessings…every day in Care Corner is a “giving thanks” day. I am so blessed…23 times over.
