Care Corner Photo Journal – Volume 3
At one time it might have seemed just a simple flower. But there is a power in this flower that was unknown before yesterday morning. A little boy asked his mom if he could bring me a flower the first day of school. So she took one from the vase in her kitchen and he proudly gave it to me outside before the school day even started. The story could have ended there…a sweet little gesture to start the day. But there is more. A little girl was very apprehensive to leave her parents and she was still crying as I took her hand. We only walked a few steps as I was wondering how to calm her fears and she quietly asked “Can I carry your flower for you?” Her job of carrying my flower all the way up to our classroom was enough to take her mind off the separation. Once in the classroom I put the flower by our Mary statue to honor her presence in Care Corner. And in probably less than an hour this flower went from a vase in the kitchen to a kind gift for a teacher to a special job for a new student to a way of honoring Mary. That’s some power. Flower power.
