Saving Up For A Gift - Page 25
Care Corner Photo Journal - Volume 6 When you want to give someone a special gift you save money for it. We have been saving since the first week of school. Today is the Feast Day of St. Vincent de Paul...patron saint of the poor and those in need. For his special feast day, we emptied our Care Corner Poor Bank and took all the money over to church to put in the St. Vincent de Paul box. We usually empty our poor bank on the last day of the month but for September we empty it on this day...the 27th...this special feast day because we have been...saving up for a gift. Little. Pink. Pig. - Page 22
Care Corner Photo Journal - Volume 6 Every Wednesday is Pooh Day in Care Corner. Except when it's not. Except when you are studying short "i" words. Then it is "Piglet Day". Last Wednesday it was just that. They learned how to draw a little pink pig who is not big and is named "Piglet". They did an incredible job with this little. pink. pig. In A Word...INCREDIBLE! - Page 21
Care Corner Photo Journal - Volume 6 It never gets old. I have been in first grade for 30 years and one of my favorite things is self-portraits. First graders drawing them themselves...and writing about it. A few weeks ago our WOW word was "incredible" and these pictures...these words...these Care Corner Kids are just that...INCREDIBLE! Hello Autumn~ Page 20
Care Corner Photo Journal - Volume 6 Sometimes impromptu lessons are the best. These kids had an incredible day today. By the end of the day we had 20 extra minutes. So...we did an impromptu "Happy Autumn" picture celebrating the first day of Fall. We wrote the title, make the BIG pumpkin and then added the five colors of autumn to "decorate" the pumpkin. In 20 short minutes, they made some beautiful autumn decorations for their homes. Hello Amazing Care Corner Kids! Hello Autumn! Let the Bidding Begin... - page 19
Care Corner Photo Journal - Volume 6 Some incredible Care Corner Parents stopped by today to help with our auction project. The parent in charge of the project will decoupage pictures of Holy Moments on a table. They each made 5 pictures depicting Holy Moments...so that is over 100 pictures these little artists created today...under the guidance of many parents. Here are just a few of the masterpieces. You can tell it's going to be one special auction project. Let the bidding begin... #thankyouparents #holymoments #StGAuction Math Ladders - It All Adds UP - Page 17
Care Corner Photo Journal - Volume 6 So...in Care Corner you canNOT use your fingers to do addition problems. I tell them we are going to add up numbers way past 10 and they will run out of fingers and we can't be taking off our shoes and socks. So...now what? Well they have a number line on their name tag...that would work. But one thing that works a little better...and is more fun...is a math ladder. It's something I developed years ago to help a student with special needs understand the concept of adding numbers together. When you add, the number gets bigger...or goes UP higher. So every year in Care Corner we use math ladders when we work on addition. They love starting on the first number and climbing UP to the bigger number...the answer. Yesterday we introduced math ladders and now they understand better how...it all adds UP. Brought to You By Osmo - Page 14
Care Corner Photo Journal - Volume 6 These smiles...this concentration...this problem solving...this critical thinking...this teamwork...this fun math group...brought to you by OSMO. #tangrams Wacky Sticks - Page 13
Care Corner Photo Journal - volume 6 How many ways can you make numbers that add up to 6? How many addition problems add up to 7? You can use manipulatives to teach this. You can build with unifix cubes to teach this or two sided discs or even crayons. Or...you can use Wacky Sticks...pipe cleaners with beads that you can separate into two groups to make an addition problem and then slide a bead to the other side to make another problem. (with the same answer). I made them a few years ago because they were easier than using bigger manipulatives. And the kids love them. Yesterday we used them just as a preview. Today we used them to complete our math paper On Friday...we will make our own Wacky Stick to take home. How many ways to make 10? How do you make learning fun? How do you help them grasp a new concept? The answer to all three is: Wacky Sticks!! #funwithmath Sweet Lesson with These Smarties - Page 12
Care Corner Photo Journal - Volume 6 When you are doing a consonant review there are a lot of letters you need to cover. And there are a lot of sounds you need to know. So what better way to "cover" the letters you know than with Smarties. What better way to celebrate the sounds you know than with Smarties. It was a fun review and a...sweet lesson with these Smarties. |
