Care Corner Photo Journal – Volume 2
It’s a tradition. (I am beginning to realize half the things we do in Care Corner are filed under “tradition”.) This is one of my favorites. The 5th grade Pen Pals make Advent calendars for each first grader. Then come to our classroom to present the calendar and explain how it works. How starting December 1, they open a window or a door or a part of the calendar to reveal a special holiday symbol. And when all the “doors” are open, it will be Christmas Day. Maybe the first grader will hang it on the refrigerator. Maybe it will hang by their bed. Maybe it will hang near a place where they pray. The first graders are thrilled with this beautiful gift but they can’t realize all the work that goes into the coloring, the cutting, the detail, the very completion of this project. One day they will realize the magnitude of this gift…when they are in 5th grade and make one for their pen pals because…it’s tradition.
