Kids love presents. They love getting presents on Christmas. They should. It’s part of the magic. But kids also love to give. And they love to learn the lesson that “it is better to give than to receive”. It’s a process to totally understand that concept…but these kids do. Today, like the last school day of every month, we took our money to the poor bank. This month they gave more because it is December. And this month we had our money from the “angel lady” (my friend who made them angels and also donated money to our poor bank). Some months they only have few coins in their hand to offer the poor. Not this month. This month they would each take a handful of money to the poor box in church. Dollar bills and lots of coins…each little hand. Each giving heart. And as each one stepped up to the poor box to put the money in they weren’t thinking about what they asked Santa for, or what might be under their Christmas tree or what grandma would get for them. They were thinking…it IS better to give…
